TITLE: 2011 Events Calendar
The Scottish Cycling Events Team would like to announce that the process for collating the 2011 Calendar will begin shortly. As soon as we receive the confirmed dates for major events from BC at the beginning of August we will send out application forms to all clubs, centres and event organisers from this year. We will be looking to receive all applications from Centres by 20th September 2010. We would like to remind everyone that all event registration forms must go through the Centres. Scottish Cycling cannot accept entries unless they have been approved by the Centre. It must also be noted that organisers must provide Scottish Cycling with sufficient notice to hold events in 2011. It will not be possible to authorise events where permission is sought less than 6 weeks before the date of the proposed event.
We will be looking for applications for the following events:
Super 6 Road Race Series (6) –
Round 1 - 5/6th March Round 2 - 2/3rd April Round 3 - 7/8th May Round 4 - 4/5th June Round 5 - 6/7th August Round 6 - 5/6th September
Women & Vet Road Race Series (3)
Scottish 10 mile TT Championship Scottish 25 mile TT Championship Scottish 50 mile TT Championship Scottish 100 mile TT Championship Scottish 12 Hour TT Championship
Scottish Road Race Championship (Male & Female) Scottish Veteran’s Road Race Championship Scottish Criterium Championships
Scottish Youth Track Championships Scottish Track Championships
Many Thanks

The permission is sought from the local police .. the dates listed are preferred dates for the events to go ahead although these may have to change if there is any date clashes with BC major events. Once the date of a race is confirmed - at date fixing time - then the oganiser of that race will start to move things along re race permit and police permission/acknowledgement of the event.
What is needed just now is for clubs to start discussing amongst themselves and with other clubs and centres what events they want to promote.
Ideally Scottish Racing Cyclists will be able to race throughout the year in the events they want to ride and not have to miss some events as there is two of the same kinds of events on the same weekend or evening closeby then have nothing to ride for the next two to three weeks !!

Why have 5 senior TT championships to just one road race. Why not a 30mile RR championship, a 50 mile RR, a 100 mile RR and a 200 mile RR championship?
At the end of the day all the the TT distances are endurance events, so one would do, preferably over a sporting course and none standard distance.
It's high time SC abandoned this outmoded branch of the sport (i.e standard distance TTs) and concentrated on proper racing (which might include the occasional sporting TT ) |

It took me 3 weeks to recover from one RR Champs this year.... the season isn't long enough to do 5 of them. |

Ah now I know who Mossy is !!!
Do you have any idea what dates TLI events will be next year ?
I think you’ll find that a lot of the true TT guys like standard distances ... if there is a standard course available I don’t see any reason for taking it away ... TTs over standard distances are a great measure of how a rider has improved. TTs over non standard courses don’t give a rider any indication on where they are in terms of fitness !!!
I do agree with non standard tt courses and it gives time trialing much more scope but don’t scrap what is already there !!
TTs are really the race of Truth .. maybe that’s why so many people don’t like them !!!
The problem with TTs just now is PR ... we do nothing to promote it .. no communication on race results, peoples forms, up and coming competitions .. i’m hoping to be part of getting that improved so any feedback would be appreciated.

surely with the amount of aro kit your average tt'er has shelled out for you could hold set distance TTs indoors if everyone had a power meter
better comparable surely....

I see some race orgs putting races as events on Facebook now, although not as an officially entry system.
Also, Wordpress.org allows free and very easy blog website to be created for sharing race/event/series info too. If you can type a few words and copy the odd URL, then its ideal, just sing up with an email address.
for example www.teamswc.wordpress.com
the use of Twitter and RSS feeds also a useful way of promotion /advertising etc.
Dunno why SC isn't using these tools more, BC certainly are?

I got a very positive response for the twitter feed for the Dundee 2-day (especially the prologue time trial). However, it is not an additional burden that an organiser should have to take on, but an additional volunteer with the right skills can make it happen.
I am guilty of putting events up on Facebook (but I link them back to the BC calendar page. It would be good if the entry forms page had a SC TT entry form..)
