Anyone heard this chat about a UK domestic rider testing positive for EPO recently?

there's a thread on the cyclingnews forum along with wild speculation as to who it is...no names of course but with a bit of detective work you could probably guess

also some interesting posts from a certain Darryl Webster on another thread....

I think he's an ex team mate of mine unfortunately, not from racing in Scotland I might add, if it is who I've been told, I'd not be overly surprised to be honest. I'll say nothing else until the B sample comes back.

If half the rumours I've heard lately are true it happens at a depressingly low level. Questions on my mind is how it can be justified for so little reward? It's not as if the prize money would cover the expense of that stuff.

steady martin
for an arch cycnic i thought you would be well versed in the cycling news forums..

the clinic is inhabited by some peculiar characters although now and again provides some interesting insights...

when your so immersed within a sport it sometimes takes those, how shall i put it, slightly more immersed than you, to give you a different perspective on what you may have taken as a given

interesting stuff from webster who i always considered a real genuine talent with an ability to turn the pedals fast whatever discipline he happened to be riding

Hi Norman

i said i wanted to read the gossip, that did not mean i was going to believe it!

Re D webster. i am old enough to remember what a talent he was. i am also old enough to remember the whole deal that seemed to come with darryl and why many believed he never achieved what he was physically capable of.

It is good to hear that he is racing again. I though he was going to buy some rollers from me this winter, but it never happened.

I've read the gossip now.

And it is just that: gossip. Not really very interesting.

what a f*d.

it does throw up a number of questions - which the boy's not answering - about how and where he acquired the gear, how he administered and, most intriguingly, why he felt the need to juice up just to be semi-competitive in domestic races?

you can understand the temptation if it's the difference between the factory or fame and fortune, but for the sake of a £50 envelope and a track pump voucher - why would you bother?

He's also always been a f#d, an arrogant moron. Glad he's been caught, we saw a dramatic change in his form as far back as 2004/2005, didn't seem natural, but you really don't think that somebody racing at that level is on EPO, I mean, why, what did he gain? I'm ashamed to have helped him win races when we were in the same club, I'll say it again, a total f#d. I think he's been on it for some time, he raced in the states with a guy who ran a doping ring, so that was before I knew him, it all adds up now, only learn these things later, wish I knew then.
Here's the judgement.
